Trust requires an intelligent judgement of trustworthiness.
I wanted to bring this TedTalk, What We Don’t Understand About Trust by Onara O’Neill to your attention because I believe it’s critically important for your personal and professional growth and, ultimately, the success of your business.
Not only is trust (in general) on a decline, but never more so than within our industry. There are very good reasons for this of course. It is not for us to judge the behaviour of others but rather to hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard.
The bottom line is, if you do not understand what it means to be trustworthy, you are going to have a great deal of difficulty building your business and growing your client base regardless of how you approach your marketing and relationship building.
I encourage you to take the time to watch and listen carefully to this TedTalk and to consider how you might apply its lessons to your own interactions with others. Your relationships with clients, business partners and competitors will be all the stronger and more productive for it.
A gentle reminder: Trust is the response. Trustworthiness in others (and ourselves) is what we have to be able to accurately judge.
More next time. Until then, remember to LOVE YOUR WORK, whatever it may be.
